DESCRIPTION:The Big Shoulders Fund Tax Credit Scholarship Program application will open on January 14\, 2020 at 8:00 am. \nThe fastest way to apply for the Big Shoulders Fund Tax Credit Scholarship is through the following link:\nhttps://bigshouldersfund.secure.force.com/bsfapplication/\nThis link will go live on January 14 at 8 am.\nThe Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program made possible by the Invest in Kids Act\, encourages families to apply for scholarships that can help them attend non-public schools\, including but not limited to the schools traditionally supported by Big Shoulders Fund. \nBig Shoulders has been approved to operate as a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). An SGO is a tax-exempt charity approved by the Illinois Department of Revenue to administer scholarship dollars donated specifically for this program. Families apply directly to SGOs to obtain a tax credit scholarship. Scholarships are determined solely based on eligibility and family income as defined by Illinois’ Invest in Kids Act. \nPlease visit bigshouldersfundsgo.org for more information about eligibility requirements and the application process. \nBig Shoulders Fund will host an informational night on January 9 from 6 – 7 pm at multiple locations across the City of Chicago. Thanks to a generous gift from the Beth and Bruce White Family Foundation\, 3\,300 students in 10 elementary and high schools in the Catholic Diocese of Gary will be directly impacted through operational support and academic programming. An additional 10 schools with 2\,600 students will also benefit from professional development opportunities made available to teachers and administrators through this initiative. \nThe expansion of Big Shoulders Fund’s programming is made possible through the exclusive use of this gift\, independent from Chicago program funding. DESCRIPTION:We are very proud to announce that two members of the Big Shoulders Fund team will be leading workshops at this year’s National Catholic Educational Association Conference (NCEA) in Cincinnati! Elizabeth Bartley\, lead instructional coach of the Data Driven Instruction Initiative will be co-presenting with Candy Usauskas\, principal of St. Mary Star of the Sea School\, on Using Data for School Improvement. \nDan Bennett\, director of leadership and scholarship support will be presenting on Designing Dynamic Extended Day Programs. \nThe NCEA is a one-of-a-kind conference in that it brings together educators from all over the country to exchange ideas and debut cutting-edge research and technologies related to education. We are honored to have Big Shoulders Fund staff lead the way in their perspective fields of work. \nWe are also proud to share that Big Shoulders Fund Principal Denise Spells\, Ed.D.\, principal at St. Ethelreda Elementary School\, will be honored at the conference by receiving a Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award! SUMMARY:Big Shoulders Fund High School Scholars Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The sixth annual  Big Shoulders Fund High School Scholars Symposium will be held on Monday\, March 6th from 9:00am to 11:30am at Dominican University. Check-in will begin at 8:30am in Slate Lobby. This dynamic program will offer new tools and ideas for our students as they begin preparing for college and their future careers. Over the last six years\, we have received very positive reviews from our scholars about the experience\, and we are excited to offer it again. Whether freshmen\, sophomore\, junior or senior\, the program provides an opportunity to hear lessons learned from individuals that followed the same path and ideas to effectively plan for the next step in their educational career. \n  \nStudents with the following renewable scholarships –Access Renewed\, Beeson\, C & M Scholars of St. Sabina\, Canning\, Corboy-Dempsey\, Depaul Prep\, Dr. Scholl Foundation\, Gallagher\, Grant Thornton\, Greg Perry\, Holy Trinity\, ICCW\, JCB Family\, JCB Leadership\, Mazza\, Napleton Band\, Querrey & Simpson\, Ringer\, SQ\, St. Malachy\, STEM – Exelon\, Thomas A. Reynolds\, Jr./ Winston & Strawn LLP\, and Valenti Charitable Foundation– are required to attend. \n  \nThe gathering will be held at Dominican University in the Lund Auditorium located at 7900 West Division Street\, River Forest\, IL 60305. \n  \nThis year we are also asking for at least one College Counselor from each school to attend\, along with one additional faculty/staff or parent chaperone per school.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Chairmen’s Advisory Council\, go back to school this fall and see how your support is helping Big Shoulders carry the dreams of children. Your morning will consist of meeting the principal and engaging with students. You could be part of a science experiment with fifth graders\, read to preschoolers\, or disect a frog with a sophmore.
