Elizabeth Bartley\, lead instructional coach of the Data Driven Instruction Initiative will be co-presenting with Candy Usauskas\, principal of St. Mary Star of the Sea School\, on Using Data for School Improvement. \nDan Bennett\, director of leadership and scholarship support will be presenting on Designing Dynamic Extended Day Programs. \nThe NCEA is a one-of-a-kind conference in that it brings together educators from all over the country to exchange ideas and debut cutting-edge research and technologies related to education. You may judge a science fair\, participate in an experiment\, build a robot\, compete in a math decathlon\, or lead a read aloud. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to see firsthand how 74 Big Shoulders Fund schools provide the roots of future opportunity. 95 percent of high school students graduate high school and 85 percent of scholars enter college. He then became CEO of Motorola in January 2008. \nPrior to joining Motorola\, he was chairman and CEO of Micromuse Inc. from 1999 to 2003. \nBrown serves as chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and is also chair of Skills for Chicagoland’s Future. He is a member of the executive committee of the Business Roundtable. Additionally\, Brown is a board member of the Economic Club of Chicago\, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and The Chicago Club. \nHe earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Rutgers University and also serves as chair of the university’s board of governors.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us Thursday\, May 5\, 2016 at 7:30am for our next CAC Networking Breakfast featuring Big Shoulders Fund’s work in Foundational Mathematics in collaboration with the CME Group Foundation\, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation\, and the Erikson Institute. \nWith support from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and the CME Group Foundation\, Big Shoulders has partnered with Erikson Institute\, and others\, to support the advancement of early childhood mathematics with a special focus on preschool and early elementary students. Over the last five years\, the initiative has included more than 100 teachers who in turn have impacted more than 2\,500 students at Big Shoulders Fund schools. The panel will address some of the current research as well as efforts underway in Big Shoulders Fund schools to support its youngest learners. \nWithout a strong foundation\, a tall building would not stand for long. Likewise\, without a strong foundation in mathematical concepts — such as patterns\, size\, and shape\, and location and direction — children can struggle to understand the more complex mathematical thinking they need later in life.
